You may have heard of network marketing, but don’t know what it is. You’re probably also aware of online marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, and others, where you can purchase virtually anything. Combining these two concepts together, you can have an online store that sells products related to network marketing. For example, if you are an independent sales rep for a company that makes health supplements, you can set up an online store that sells vitamins, minerals, herbs, and other health supplements that you might promote.
Why an Online Store?
The advantages of an online store are numerous. First, you can start one with next to nothing. There are no manufacturing costs because you’re not actually making the products yourself. You’re simply selling what others have created. Second, you can use a platform such as Shopify or Big Commerce to set up your online store quickly and easily. Third, you can market the store to millions of users on social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter. Finally, the products you sell can be accessed anywhere, anytime, because of online marketplaces such as Amazon.
Setting Up an Online Store
To set up an online store that sells network marketing related products, you will need a web hosting account, a shopify account, and a PayPal account.
The first step is to create a blog for the store. This can be done through any blogging platform, but WordPress is one of the most popular options. Don’t worry — we will teach you how to use WordPress in a few minutes. Once you have your blog set up, you can move on to the next step.
Get a Domain Name and Hosting Account
A domain name is the part of an URL that comes after a “@” sign. For example, the domain name for this website is www.digitalnomadwonders.com. Domain names are generally free, but you will need to get one of the following hosting accounts:
- Shared Hosting — This is the most basic type of hosting, in which your website is hosted on the server of a third party (the host) and you only have access to the files that are made available to the general public.
- VPS Hosting — With this type of hosting, you have root access and can install any software or change any settings on the server.
- Semi-dedicated Hosting — This type of hosting is a middle ground between shared hosting and fully devoted hosting. With this option, you have access to a dedicated server which is fully yours, but you don’t have root access and cannot change settings on the server.
- Fully Dedicated Hosting — This type of hosting is the most expensive option, yet it gives you the maximum level of control over your site. With this type of hosting, you have access to a dedicated server which is totally yours and no one else can access it (not even the host).
When picking a domain name and hosting account, you need to keep in mind that these are the two most important aspects of your website. Without a good domain name, you won’t be able to get online users to come back for more, and the hosting account will be of no use if the domain name is difficult or impossible to remember.
Once you have your blog set up, you can move on to setting up a Shopify store. Shopify is a platform that allows you to quickly and easily create an online store. Besides being a platform, Shopify also offers its own merchant account and payment processing solutions. The great thing about Shopify is that they will set you up with a store in less than 15 minutes, and all you need to do is enter some basic information, upload a logo, and add some products. The rest will be taken care of. So, let’s get started.
Create Your Products
Now that you have a domain name and hosting account, you can create your products. With your products, you will want to follow the same guidelines as you did with your blog. Make sure to put yourself in the audience that you intend to reach with your products. When creating your products, you should also think about the keywords you will use to attract your intended audience. Remember, people using search engines to find products will often ignore keywords and browse by category or popularity.
Choose a Niche
Besides creating your products, you also need to decide on a niche. A niche is a group of individuals or businesses that share interests and activities. For example, if you are passionate about fashion, you could create a blog about fashion trends or style tips. Or, if you are entrepreneurial, you could start a blog about promoting products and doing business online. When choosing a niche, make sure that there is enough interest in your chosen topic. You can do this by performing a quick Google search on your chosen topic to see how many articles are out there. Once you have enough interest, you can move on to the next step.
Post Content Often
Now that you have some content on your newly created blog, you need to keep posting content often. With your product blog, you want to focus on providing value to your readers by regularly posting valuable content. When you start off small, it’s easy to post daily, but as you grow, you may find it difficult to keep up with the content schedule. Never be afraid to post twice a day or even three times a day, as long as you have quality content.
Use Social Media
In the previous step, we discussed how you could market the products you sell through various social media platforms. The same guidelines apply to your product blog. Instead of using just one platform, such as Twitter or Instagram, you could use several platforms to reach your audience.
The most important thing to keep in mind about social media is to ensure that you are consistently posting valuable content. Your posts should be relevant to your niche, and should include at least three valuable pieces of content, such as a blog post, a podcast, or a YouTube video.
As you may have guessed, the steps listed so far will help you set up a blog that sells products related to network marketing. The next step will help you connect these dots and put everything into practice.
