SharePoint Online 2013 Content Marketing Team Site Layout Examples

I have been searching for examples of team site layouts for the past few hours and I came across some interesting and creative implementations. Hopefully, this article will help you find the right design for your organization’s needs.

Four Team Sites That Operate On A Micro-Level

Before we begin, let’s review the basics of a SharePoint team site. A team site is a special type of site collection that groups team members (or contributors) around a shared topic. You can have as many team sites as you want within a given SharePoint site collection, but you should strive to keep them relatively small. Large team sites can become unwieldy and difficult to manage.

Each team site has a unique navigation bar at the top that gives the user access to the site’s features. For instance, if you create a team site for your sales team, you will want to include a navigation bar that points to the following locations:

  • Order confirmation pages
  • Product information pages
  • Invoices
  • Timesheets
  • Billing and Payment pages
  • Secure area to store company data

Additionally, each team site has a navigation menu at the top which provides the user with access to the site’s various features. As mentioned above, you can add as many features to a team site as you want, but you should keep the number of features to a minimum. In the example below, we have kept the layout simple but added a few key features.

The Benefits Of A Micro-Level Team Site

As the name suggests, a micro-level team site is a team site in general, but it refers to a specific type of small team site. A micro-level team site allows you to create small department sites within a single platform. Using a tool like SurveyMonkey, you can organize user-generated content in topic areas like market research, customer feedback and community building. With a micro-level team site, you can also quickly launch new sites for different groups within your organization.

For example, you can create a healthcare micro-level team site to allow staff to discuss medical issues and follow departmental procedures. Or, you can use a tool like SurveyMonkey to launch a site for your legal department so they can keep track of case information and follow up on any recent developments.

This type of team site is ideal for midsize businesses that have a couple of offices and a number of remote locations. Since we are a virtual law firm, this type of setup works well for us.

Three Tips For Creating A Memorable User Experience

An effective user experience is one that is memorable. To achieve this, you need to consider the following tips:

  • Keep it simple
  • Minimalism is the key
  • Focus on the users

Simplicity and minimalism will make the user experience more memorable and less likely to be forgotten. If you want, you can take this a step further and implement an anti-fragility strategy. This means that instead of keeping everything the same, you make changes that are more durable. For example, if a page isn’t working for your organization, rather than just making a quick fix and moving on, you can take the time to develop a fix that will last.

Now, let’s examine some of the top-notch SharePoint team sites that I came across. Each of these sites is unique in its implementation, but they all have one thing in common – they strive for minimalism and ease of use.

The BizEaze Team Site

The BizEaze team site is an excellent example of a minimalistic SharePoint team site. It is a free team site from OneOrient that offers a blank canvas for your organization to build a centralized resource for your team. The BizEaze team site is probably the simplest of the four sites that we will discuss, but it still has some valuable tips that you can implement in your own settings.

As you can see in the image above, the BizEaze team site is a very clean and uncluttered workspace. This is vital for creating a memorable user experience. By keeping the site simple and clean, you are more likely to be successful in keeping users engaged. Moreover, the minimal design makes it much easier for the users to navigate.

Additionally, the BizEaze team site has a few valuable tips that you can implement in your own organization. If you are looking for a simple solution, this is the perfect place to start. The team site also encourages community engagement by including a “Help” button which, when clicked, takes the user to a support chat room. This feature allows you to have direct, immediate access to customer service should you need it.

The Salesforce Team Site

The Salesforce team site is, in my opinion, one of the cleanest and most functional team sites that I have seen in some time. It is an excellent example of a highly functional and customizable team site. This site was created using Asana, an Atlassian product. What makes this site even more extraordinary is that it was built by a single team member and uploaded to SharePoint without any other customizations.

One of the first things that you will notice about the Salesforce team site is how well it stands out from the crowd. This is thanks, in part, to the site’s brilliant use of color. Instead of going with the standard, gray background, the developer used a blue background to give the user a subtle, yet memorable, hint as to what’s going on in the site. Moreover, the developer decided to keep things light and fluffy by inserting a bit of humor in the site’s design.

For example, if your organization’s legal department operates on a tight budget and doesn’t have the funds to purchase expensive legal software, you can incorporate some humor in a fun bit of marketing where you ask your users if they’re looking for legal assistance and then redirect them to a scam website that takes them for a ride.

Additionally, as mentioned above, the Salesforce team site was built using Asana, an Atlassian product. One of the great things about this product is that it provides you with a ton of built-in functionality that makes it very easy to set up and operate a team site. You can also download the Asana app to your iOS or Android device and use it to access your team’s shared documents and track tasks in real-time.

Additionally, let’s take a quick look at the various features that the Salesforce team site offers.

Features Of The Salesforce Team Site

The following are the key features of the Salesforce team site:

  • Intuitive navigation
  • Team collaboration
  • Contact management
  • Tasks & To-Do’s
  • Calendar
  • News article publishing
  • Marketing automation
  • Invoicing
  • Online forms
  • Announcements
  • File sharing

As you can see above, the Salesforce team site has almost every feature that you could want in a simple, yet functional, team site. The only features that it lacks are a password retrieval feature and a way to restrict visitors to certain team areas. For the average user, setting up this site should be quite simple. Moreover, the intuitive navigation bar and side panel make it easy for anyone to navigate throughout the site.

The Insync Team Site

The Insync team site is an excellent example of a simple and functional team site. Designed with Squarespace, the Insync team site is perfect for small businesses that want to keep their content close to the chest. The best part about this site is that it doesn’t make use of any flashy or distracting features. Everything about this site is simple and straightforward.

Take a look at the following image and you will agree that this is a well-maintained and simple to use team site. Insync uses a fairly light colored background with gray text, which makes it easy on the eyes and easier to scan information on.

Additionally, the site features prominently displayed headers and sub-headers which makes it easy to navigate through relevant content without getting lost or overwhelmed by all the details.
