Since its release last week, Red Dead Redemption 2 has been racking up sales figures as gamers flock to the Western-themed game. The game’s incredible critical and commercial reception has prompted the creation of online communities devoted to sharing gameplay experiences, and one of the latest additions to this sub-culture is a multi-player game called Deathmatch Stereoscopic (DMS).
In Deathmatch Stereoscopic, players take the role of Death in the Red Dead Redemption series and must compete against each other to be the last man standing. Players can choose from multiple game modes, including Team Deathmatch, which pits two teams of up to four players against each other, and Capture the Flag, which requires players to capture and hold a flag for as long as they can.
To celebrate the launch of Deathmatch Stereoscopic, we spoke to Brenda Romero, Director of Marketing at Rockstar Games.
Why Did You Create a Multi-Player Game?
Red Dead Redemption 2 is the series’ biggest launch to date and is the culmination of a lot of work. The team at Rockstar took a while to find the right blend of gameplay and story, and when they did, it was something special. We’re happy that more and more people are discovering this game and are engaging with it online.
Multi-player games allow players to play alongside or against each other, and be on the same team or be competing against one another. Additionally, multi-player games provide a safe space for gamers to explore other gameplay options beyond their individual experiences with the game. This is especially useful for older players who may be less familiar with the ins and outs of single-player gameplay.
