I’m writing this blog post to hopefully give you some insight into what it’s like to be an online marketing and communications intern at the University of Florida.
As an online marketing and communications intern at the University of Florida, you will work directly with Dr. Michael Menton, who is the Dean of the Thad Cochran College of Education and the Director of the Menton Center for Education in Film & Media. It’s an excellent opportunity to gain experience in marketing and communications while still in school. You’ll gain experience in digital marketing, social media marketing, analysis of traditional and digital marketing activities, and much more. Essentially, your role will be to help Dr. Menton with research to develop marketing strategies, identify and analyze trends in the educational, corporate, and governmental sectors, write promotional material, design marketing material, and develop marketing campaigns across multiple platforms. You’ll work closely with academic marketing experts, as well as members of Marketing and Communication faculty, providing you with a holistic understanding of marketing and how to apply it to real-world contexts.
You’ll need to have a good understanding of marketing and communications, as well as digital marketing and social media. You’ll also be responsible for analyzing online activity, generating insight from the digital behavioral data, and preparing reports on your findings. You’ll assist researchers with studies, and you may occasionally be asked to present your work in progress to faculty and students. This can be for an academic purpose or just for fun! As with any role in marketing, you’ll have to be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. You’ll also be responsible for entering editorial data into CRM, designing marketing material, analyzing the success of marketing campaigns, and preparing future marketing plans. In addition, you’ll be expected to maintain accurate documentation of all marketing activities.

The Marketing and Communications faculty in the Thad Cochran College of Education are currently looking for an intern to assist with editorial tasks and project planning. You must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team. This position is suitable for a student, or recently graduated individual, seeking to begin their career in marketing and communications, or someone looking to further their studies in the field.
