This is the dashboard for the Google Online Marketing Challenge as part of the 2018 Global Entrepreneurship Summit. You can use this dashboard to track your performance throughout the challenge and to compare your results with other challenge participants.
Overall Performance
Use this metric to track how you’re doing overall compared to the benchmark set by the challenge’s sponsor, the Google Digital Marketing & Analytics team. The dashboard will tell you your ROI so far this year (return on investment). You’ll also have access to a variety of performance metrics, like revenue, leads, and traffic.
If you’d like, you can switch to the metric mode by clicking the gear icon on the right side of the dashboard.
Goals
Use this component to track your progress toward meeting the challenge’s goals. The dashboard will show you your current progress and provide you with a short-term goal to work toward.
Goals are tied to specific actions in the form of objectives and tasks. For example, you might set a goal for 20 new leads within the next month. To track your progress, you’ll use the dashboard’s metric mode, turning on the leads goal in the left-side menu.
Activities
Use this component to track your progress toward meeting the challenge’s specific activities. The dashboard will show you your current progress and provide you with a short-term goal to work toward.
Activities are things that you need to do to meet the challenge’s objectives. For example, you might be asked to plan and execute a social media campaign. To track your progress, you’ll use the dashboard’s metric mode, turning on the social media activity in the left-side menu.
Benchmarks
Use this component to track your progress toward meeting the challenge’s benchmark, which is based on your performance throughout the year so far. The dashboard will show you your current progress and provide you with a short-term goal to work toward.
Benchmarks are important because they provide you with a standard to which you can compare your results. For example, if you’re asked to generate $20,000 in revenue this month, the dashboard will show you the benchmark for that particular activity.
If you’d like, you can switch to the benchmark mode by clicking the gear icon on the right side of the dashboard.
Reporting
Use this component to create detailed reports on your performance throughout the challenge. The dashboard will offer you a variety of customized views that you can use to show off your analysis and metrics in a clear and concise manner.
Version History
Use this component to access previous reports and dashboards from previous competitions. You can create a dashboard for each previous challenge and gain valuable insights from each one.
The version history allows you to track your progress toward meeting the objectives of previous challenges.
Helpful Resources
Use this component to access external resources that you think could be helpful in meeting the challenge’s goals. The dashboard allows you to create a helpful resource for other participants to access. For example, you might create an external blog post on how to generate more leads for your business.
Helpful resources can include online documents, webinars, and email courses. You can add a resource link to the dashboard by clicking the “+” icon in the top right corner.
Community
Use this component to get in touch with other participants and show off your collaboration. The dashboard allows you to create and participate in communities of interest, like LinkedIn’s Marketing & Analytics groups or forums. You can also create a community around your business and invite others to join your group.
Marketing Automation and AI play a crucial role in marketing operations these days, but implementing them can be daunting. That’s why you need people like Exact Target’s Melissa Barticki, who guides you through the steps to successfully implement a fully automated marketing operation using Microsoft’s automated marketing software, Marketing Automation.
Next Step
Switch to the “next step” component on the right side of the dashboard, where you’ll be able to access information on the next task or activity set for you by the challenge’s organizer. The dashboard’s next step button will tell you the due date for the next item on your to-do list and the status of your current task.
You’ll also see a list of all the items you have left to do. If you click on an item, you’ll be taken to that particular page on the website where you can check off your item as you go along.
Overview
This is the overview component of the dashboard. It will provide you with an overview of the key performance metrics and analytics for your business. You’ll be able to switch between viewing the dashboard in metric or benchmark mode.
While the overall performance and the goals metrics track your performance throughout the year, the overview metric shows you key performance indicators measured at the end of each month.
The dashboard’s overview component will show you the following:
- Your business’ income (top line, biz dev, and MRR)
- Your website’s traffic (organic and direct traffic)
- The number of leads generated (organic leads and direct traffic)
- The effectiveness of your campaigns (lead conversion and growth)
- The number of customers acquired (top line, biz dev, and MRR)
- Your business’ growth (revenue, customers, and biz dev)
- The key performance indicators that you need to work toward (like the $20,000 in revenue goal mentioned previously)
- How you’re doing compared to your peers (the Google Digital Marketing & Analytics benchmark)
- And much more
If you’d like, you can click the “i” symbol in the top right corner to edit the details of your business.
Revision History
This is the revision history component of the dashboard. It will allow you to access a list of all previous versions of your report along with a link to the previous version. This is helpful if you’re trying to track the progression of a specific element of your report through multiple versions.
The dashboard’s revision history lets you track changes made between versions, allowing you to see what was altered and when. You can switch between viewing the dashboard in metric or benchmark mode.
Analytics
Use this component to access a variety of analytical tools. The dashboard’s analytics tool will allow you to compare your performance in meeting the challenge’s goals to that of other businesses in your industry. For example, you might want to compare your performance to that of businesses in your industry who are similar in size and scope.
The analytics component allows you to look at how your performance compares to that of other businesses in your industry, like Accountants for Accountants.
Settings
Use this component to make changes to personalize your dashboard. You can choose to show only a certain subset of the performance metrics and analytics or hide them all together. Additionally, you can choose which benchmark to show in the overall performance metric and which one to show in the analytics component.
If you want, you can switch between metric and benchmark modes by clicking the gear icon in the top right corner of the dashboard.
Help
Use this component to access help features, like how-to guides, FAQs, and training videos. The help component is especially helpful if you’re stuck on something and need someone to walk you through the steps. Additionally, you can choose whether to have help available for the entire month or just until you complete your next task. For example, if you need someone to help you create a marketing plan for the month of March, you can select “until I complete my next task.”
Don’t show me this message again
Use this component to tell the dashboard whether you want to receive future updates about the challenge or not. If you opt-in for future updates, you’ll get a notification when a new version of the challenge is released.
The dashboard’s “don’t show me this message again” button will prevent you from receiving future notifications about the challenge. So if you’d like to stay informed about the challenge but don’t want to get bothered by notifications, click the button to unsubscribe.
