In case you were wondering, you can now become a Certified Digital Marketer!
Back in May 2021, the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) rolled out the Certified Digital Marketer credential. With this credential, you can prove your expertise in digital marketing, demonstrating your knowledge of both traditional and digital marketing methodologies.
This credential is in addition to your existing credentials. If you have a PMI certification, you can add the digital marketing component to your PMI certification to show that you have the knowledge to effectively conduct digital marketing strategies. The credential will also be valuable to you as a brand marketer because you can show that you are an expert in marketing for digital platforms. This makes you more valuable to a potential employer, as well as a marketing agency.
What is a Digital Marketer?
A digital marketer is someone who can conceptualize and plan marketing campaigns for digital platforms, such as websites and mobile applications. A digital marketer is also experienced in SEO, PPC, and email marketing, among other platforms. The IAB notes that while there are no specific skills needed to be a digital marketer, the ideal candidate will have experience in analyzing the performance of digital marketing campaigns and will be able to take direction and feedback from senior personnel.
Why Should You Become a Certified Digital Marketer?
The growing demand for digital marketers demonstrates the growing importance of this group in the marketing world. According to the IAB, job postings for digital marketers increase by 15% each year. And what are these jobs posting for? Anything and everything related to digital marketing, from strategy to analytics and measurement. This makes sense, considering that more people than ever are using digital platforms to consume content and conduct business.
So if you’re looking for a career in digital marketing and want to be set for life, consider pursuing certification! With this credential, you can prove your expertise in digital marketing, demonstrating your knowledge of both traditional and digital marketing methodologies. And let’s be honest, who wouldn’t like a job where you can be set for life?
How Do I Get Certified?
If you want to obtain the Certified Digital Marketer credential, you must complete a digital marketing learning module, consisting of either a bachelor’s or a master’s degree in digital marketing, as well as passing a certification exam. You can choose from two different certification exams, administered by the IAB: Certified Digital Marketer (C | PDF) or Certified SEO Marketer (SEM | PDF).
What do the Certificates Mean?
Upon successfully passing the exam, you will receive a certificate that will be worth up to 15 contact hours of learning towards your total PMI certification or digital marketing degree. In addition, you will be assigned a personal mentor who will help you navigate the PMI certification process and introduce you to relevant job opportunities.
Once you have the certificate, you can take the next step towards being a Certified Digital Marketer by applying to take the Certified Digital Marketer (C | PDF) or Certified SEO Marketer (SEM | PDF) exam. The IAB notes that while there are no specific skills needed to be a digital marketer, the ideal candidate will have experience in analyzing the performance of digital marketing campaigns and will be able to take direction and feedback from senior personnel.
