I have been a fan of Darin Brown’s books for years and have always found his tips and advice quite useful. So, when he offered me the chance to try out his revolutionary new platform, DBN, I jumped at the opportunity.
What is DBN?
DBN is short for “Digital Bulletin Board” and it is a revolutionary new way for business owners to engage with their customers online. Just like a bulletin board in the post office, users submit articles and news items that are voted on by other users. Businesses can then respond to these articles and engage with their customers online.
The great thing about DBN is that it is completely free. You don’t have to run ads or rely on costly paid tools to benefit from its features. And because it is such a useful tool for businesses, many larger organizations have paid to promote their brands on DBN. So, the platform is definitely worth checking out if you are looking for a free way to get your business online.
Why should you try out DBN?
The best thing about DBN is that it provides an all-in-one solution for businesses. As a business owner, you no longer have to run ads, create social media accounts, and log in to different websites to market your business. With DBN, you can do all of that from one place.
To be able to engage with current and potential customers online, you first need to set-up a business account. Once you’ve set up an account, you can start posting articles and making comments on other users’ content.
You also have the option to promote specific deals and discounts that are relevant to what you sell. Once you’ve done that, your business will appear on all of the major search engines (such as Google and Bing) when customers search for your products or services.
How does DBN work?
As I mentioned above, DBN is very similar to a bulletin board in a post office. You can think of it as “a discussion forum for the online world”. When you create an account and log in to your dashboard, you will see that there are many different boards and topics that you can participate in. The main difference between a post office bulletin board and DBN is that the latter is a discussion board and not just a place where you post messages. You can see an example of DBN in action below.
On the left-hand side of the screen, you will see a board called “Bitcoin”. It lists all of the articles and comments that have been posted on the topic of Bitcoin. Notice that different colored text indicates which parts of the post are “takes” (“me”) and which parts are “responses” (“you”).
To post to the Bitcoin board, simply click on the words “Post a comment” and a text box will appear where you can type your comment. You must sign your comment with your full name (first name, last name, email address, and a password).
Below the text box, you will see two small boxes. One is for attaching a photo and the other one is for a video. If you want to post a photo, click on the small box with the photo icon and a gallery of your photos will appear. You can then click on a photo to make it the featured image for your comment (this is similar to “liking” something on Facebook).
If you want to post a video, click on the box with the video icon. After that, you can search and watch videos that relate to your topic or website in order to create an informative, yet engaging, comment.
How can DBN help my business?
If you are unfamiliar, the great thing about DBN is that it allows you to engage with potential customers through articles and videos that they will find useful. Below, you can see an example of how this could look.
In this case, we will assume that the business is a toy store and that they sell toys for kids. The owner of the business wants to engage with parents on social media and through articles that they post on DBN. So, they log in to their dashboard and see that there is a “parenting” topic listed on the board. They then click on that topic and read the first article, which is a helpful comparison of different types of toys for children.
In the post, the business owner compares different types of video games and their relative merits. They also include a discount code for their customers to use when making online purchases. When potential customers visit the website using the link provided in the article, they will see that the business offers a 10% discount (which is what they posted on their site). So, in this case, the business is able to get the word out about their product and generate some sales.
How can I use DBN to grow my business?
Darin Brown, the founder of DBN, envisions the platform as “the digital discussion forum for business owners and marketers”. This means that it can be used by both business owners who want to generate a bit of buzz and interest around their products or services and also used by marketers who want to engage with potential customers through articles and videos that they share on the platform.
One great way for a business to use DBN is to generate buzz around their brand. After all, that’s how you get new customers and retain existing ones. You can do this through various types of marketing including advertising, content marketing, PR, and social media. Let’s say that you sell office equipment online and you want to use DBN to get the word out about your products. You can use the platform to engage with other businesses that are also in the same niche.
You can then use the articles and videos that you’ve published as part of that discussion to promote your products or services. It’s a win-win situation because you are able to generate interest in your brand while also providing helpful information about your products.
What kinds of businesses can use DBN?
Just about any business, be it a brand or a company, can potentially use DBN. It is completely free and open source, which means that anyone can download it and use it for whatever purpose they choose (as long as they abide by the platform’s terms and conditions).
In addition to businesses, public figures, organizations, and brands can use the platform, too. For example, a political campaign or an advocacy group can use DBN to engage with their fans and members online. A university or a college can use it to engage with students and alumni about ongoing events, lectures, and classes. And a non-profit can use it to gain more attention and engagement for its cause.
Does DBN have any limits on the number of comments or articles I can post?
There are no limits on the number of comments or articles that you can post on DBN. However, there is a limit on the number of posts that you can make in a day. This limit can be adjusted by the administrator of your dashboard. So, in theory, you could post as many comments or articles as you want, every day, if you so desire.
How can I ensure that my comments are approved?
This is one of the most important questions to ask yourself if you’re planning to use DBN. Simply put, you cannot ensure that your comments will be approved by other users unless you have a certain amount of “karma” (aka, trustworthiness).
Karma is a term from the 4th dimension and it is used to describe how much “trust” or “belief” you have in a particular subject or area. The more you post, the more you will earn. The more you earn, the more you can post. So, the virtuous cycle of gaining trust and posting more kicks in and the platform encourages users to engage more, which leads to even more trust and engagement.
Because businesses can post, respond to, and promote articles and comments on DBN, it is a place where businesses and organizations can engage with their customers, stakeholders, and the public about their missions, values, and what they’re doing to ensure that their customers and stakeholders feel good about doing business with them.
