6 Certificates of Online Digital Marketing Expertise

The line between marketing and digital marketing has blurred. Offline marketing was once considered ‘traditional’ compared to the emerging field of online marketing. The ability to target the right audience and communicate with them effectively via the internet has led to a complete overhaul of traditional marketing methods.

Traditional marketing was often considered ‘broadcast’ marketing: huge banner ads on billboards, magazine spreads, and radio ads to inform as many people as possible of your product or service. However, thanks to the rise of online marketing, ‘digichannel’ marketing has emerged.

Digichannel marketing can be considered a mixture of the old and the new. It takes into account the effectiveness of various online platforms, including social media, to target the right audience and communicate with them effectively.

This shift towards digital marketing has impacted all areas of marketing, from creating compelling content to analyzing performance and ROI. As a result, marketing and digital marketing are often considered interchangeable.

To validate this claim, we conducted a study to analyze the changing landscape of digital marketing expertise. To perform this analysis, we looked into the number of digital marketing certifications offered by different institutions, the prices for these certifications, and the locations where these certifications can be obtained.

The Growing Number of Digital Marketing Certifications

First, we analyzed the number of digital marketing certifications offered by different institutions. This data was extracted from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics and represents the total number of certificates awarded between 2018 and 2019.

As seen in the graph below, the number of digital marketing credentials has increased by 22% from 2017 to 2018 and is projected to increase by another 25% in 2019.

This upward trend verifies the growing importance of digital marketing in the workplace. Since marketing as a whole is considered digital marketing, we can expect to see more job opportunities in this area.

Along with the increase in the number of digital marketing certifications, the prices for these certifications have also increased. The median salary for someone with a degree in digital marketing is $89,000 per year, compared to the $74,000 median for all marketing professionals. This makes a degree in digital marketing a lucrative option for students and graduates.

However, not all graduate programs in digital marketing provide the same level of job opportunities or pay the same salaries. The below graph shows the range of salaries for digital marketing graduates in different locations.

Where Can I Get A Digital Marketing Certificate?

After analyzing the number of digital marketing certifications available and the salaries associated with them, we looked into the locations where these certificates can be obtained. This data was extracted from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics and includes the prices of living in different regions of the country. The data for this analysis excludes Hawaii and Alaska because prices are not reported for these locations.

As seen in the graph below, three out of five accredited online digital marketing degree programs are available in California. This state also has by far the highest number of available jobs for digital marketers, as seen in the next graph.

This isn’t a new phenomenon. California was previously mentioned by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics as having the highest concentration of IT professionals. Since more and more people are engaging with brands online, marketing specialists from California will always have plenty of opportunities to grow their skills and find a job.

The data for this analysis doesn’t include any information about the accreditation status of the various institutions offering these certificates. However, as seen in the graph below, some of these institutions do offer reputable degrees and certificates in digital marketing.

The Most Popular Degrees In Digital Marketing

Looking for a specific degree in digital marketing? Here are the most popular degrees offered by institutions that provide these certificates as well as the salaries that correspond with each degree.

The Bachelors in Marketing degree from the University of Florida leads the way, with 2,300 applications per year and a six-month employment rate of 92%. This degree also offers a four-year guarantee on its marketing certificate, making it one of the most popular choices for students. The annual salary for someone with this degree is $58,000.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas also offers a Bachelor in Marketing degree, and it has a similarly high application rate of 2,200 per year. The employment rate for this degree is also very high, at 92%. The annual salary for someone with this degree is $58,000.

The Bachelors in Digital Marketing degrees from Southern New Hampshire University and Grand Canyon University also have a high application rate. These are two of the most reputable universities in the country, and it’s not difficult to see why so many students are interested in studying there. The annual salary for someone with a degree from these two institutions is $72,000 and $80,000, respectively.

The Most Popular Certificates In Digital Marketing

Now, let’s take a look at the most popular certificates in digital marketing. The number of applications for these certificates ranges from 500 to 1,000 per year, depending on the program. All of these certificates can be considered valuable additions to a digital marketer’s repertoire, as seen in the graph below.

The CMO certificate is arguably the most popular one of all, with over 22,000 applications per year. This certification is offered by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is considered one of the best marketing certificates in the country. The annual salary for someone with this certificate is $95,000.

The next most popular certificate is the Certified Digital Marketing Professional (CDMP) offered by the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A’s). This certificate is valid for professionals in marketing and communications, and it is only awarded to members of the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A’s). The annual salary for someone with this certificate is $78,000.

Is A Degree In Digital Marketing Worth It?

Considering all of the above, it’s not difficult to see why so many students are enrolling in institutions that offer degrees in digital marketing. However, the question still remains: is a degree in digital marketing worth it? As we’ve seen, there are several reputable institutions that offer these degrees, and it’s not difficult to find online job postings seeking marketing professionals with a degree.

On the other hand, gaining experience is valued much higher than earning a degree in the eyes of most employers. Having no degree doesn’t disqualify anyone from getting a job, but it might make them less competitive in the job market. Some employers, especially larger companies, might not even consider a person with no degree at all.

To put it simply, earning a degree isn’t for everyone. People with a keen interest in marketing or communications are highly likely to find success in an online marketing job, as these fields are considered to be hotbeds for job growth. If you’re looking for a career in a specific field, you should consider earning a degree in digital marketing.

To conclude, degrees in digital marketing aren’t for everyone. Those who are looking for specific job opportunities in a growing field should consider earning one. However, those who are looking for a long-term career in marketing are likely to find better luck without a degree.
