Welcome to my blog. I’m a digital marketing strategist with a special focus on SEO and analytics, author of the book “SEO For Dummies” and proud member of the digital marketing community.
Why Blogging?
Blogging was once considered a “hobby” or “pastime” and something individuals did to have some fun or to get some inspiration. However, with the evolution of social media and the rise of “influencers” and “micro-blogging”, blogging has become much more than that. The lines between “traditional” and “digital” marketing have blurred, as marketers look to innovate and evolve with the times.
Nowadays, blogging is considered an essential part of any digital marketing campaign. It doesn’t matter if you’re a large or small business; if you want to be found online, you need to have a blog. Why? Because Google considers blogs to be an “authoritative” source of information about your industry. So, if you want to gain visibility in Google searches, you need to establish yourself as an expert in your industry by consistently posting useful, informative blog articles.
How Do I Blog?
Depending on your preferred blogging tool, you can use either WordPress or Blogger to start a blog. Both of these platforms offer premium versions that allow you to implement various marketing strategies and enhance your blog’s performance.
If you want to create a blog that is search-engine optimized, you should look into getting a quality theme that is built on the 960 grid (the latest iteration of the popular Bootstrap framework). This will help your blog appear more organic in the search results.
Once you’ve established your blog with a decent theme, the next step is to populate it with content.
To attract potential customers to my blog, I try to publish a new article once every two weeks. To ensure that my articles are top-notch, I regularly consult with experts in my field and also rely on a talented copy editor to help polish my writing.
To drive more traffic to my blog, I try to focus on getting inbound links. If you’re wondering what SEO is and how you can use it to improve your blog’s performance, please read my in-depth guide to SEO: SEO For Dummies. It will help you understand the basics of SEO and how to implement them on your own blog.
Blogging as a Business
If you decide to take blogging seriously as a business, you should look into getting a WordPress premium account. With a premium account, you can install the Jetpack plugin to enhance your blog’s performance in organic searches. You can also choose to install the SEO starter kit to get the most from your blog’s performance.
If you decide that blogging is an effective way to build your business, take some time to think about the type of content that you’ll want to create. Once you’ve decided what types of articles you’ll want to write, you can use the above tools to start a profitable blog.
